over the years, patio fireplaces as well as fire pits have become quite common and you need not look very far to notice that even your friend next door has one. If you happen to travel a lot for instance, then you need to get a lightweight type which can also be compacted easily ready for packing. Certainly you would not want to be carrying all that weight just to keep warm would you? The other consideration is where to place the fire pit. As with most, the patio seems like a nice place to set it therefore the design you choose should either be a bowl[..]

Despite the close connection between the goddess and the city, it was believed that Athena had once been forced to compete to win her pre-eminent position. In the time of the first king, Kekrops, the god Poseidon, discontented with his dominion over the seas, and jealous of the authority his brother Zeus exercised over the land, was determined to extend his own influence. One day he appeared on the Acropolis to demonstrate his power and usefulness to the citizens. In the presence of the king and people, he struck a great blow with his trident on the rock, and a saltwater spring gushed out. At that point, the goddess Athena appeared and caused an olive tree to emerge out of the ground. As[..]

I concur with Robert Fulghum, US author and Unitarian clergyman, who said, "Sticks and stones will break our bones, but words will break our hearts..." Many of us are getting the sticks and stones of life now because of the pain of words ill-spoken. Words like "your momma won't nothing and you won't be nothing either" wounds our self esteem. How can you esteem yourself, if people whom you respect or have authority afflict you with such words? It's even more disheartening when you succeed in life despite those words yet you cannot enjoy it because[..]

Not so many decades ago, settlers and farmers located in the Plains states of America lived in sod houses. They were called that because the exterior walls -- and sometimes even interior walls -- were built of "bricks" that were a mixture of native soil and water, sometimes even chunks of tough prairie grass embedded in the soil and cut out of the ground in the shapes and sizes needed. When I was a small boy, we made a few trips to visit my paternal grandparents in southeastern Colorado and went out of town about 20-25 miles to the original family homestead, where we were shown the remains of the house my father grew up in -- a genuine sod house. The Celts used symbols to communicate to each other particular meanings, but also used them to illustrate their spirituality or as a means of projecting an image to another. "The fascination that the Old West has will never die." -John Wayne The mythology of the Old West has been denigrated by the people who set literary fashion. They say it is idealized, simplistic, tired, and, above all, untrue. The good guys were never that good. Frontiersmen and settlers displaced noble people already occupying the land. Coarse immigrants came in droves to desecrate a pristine wilderness. Eulogized heroics usually involved vigilantism, which offends those who honor the rule of law. The same mythology escapes criticism in fantasy and science fiction, so why is it disparaged in Westerns? They're all made-up stories, but morality plays in these other genres find acceptance.[..]
